Tuscia region opposes proposed Italian nuclear waste repository sites
Political groups and local associations in the Tuscia region of Italy are challenging the suitability of 21 sites identified in the National Map of Potentially Suitable Areas (CNAI) for a national radioactive waste repository.
During a meeting organized by the Province of Viterbo, Forza Italia representatives stated that none of the 21 identified sites in the area are suitable. The objections are based on technical evaluations regarding subsoil characteristics, hydrogeological settings, the presence of faults, and hydraulic hazards.
The La Casa dei Comuni group has expressed concern over the management of the dossier, calling for direct dialogue with Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. The group criticized the lack of formal information regarding upcoming decisions and implementation decrees, arguing that such a sensitive issue affecting public health and safety requires precise official communication rather than informal reports.
