Tutankhamun tomb and Mayan skull studied with modern technology reveal new insights

Archaeologists using advanced imaging and DNA analysis have revisited the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62) in Egypt, scanning the burial chamber and original plans to search for hidden passages and to confirm details about the pharaoh’s health, lineage and funerary objects such as a meteorite‑iron dagger.

In Guatemala, a multidisciplinary team examined a 500‑year‑old stucco‑coated Maya skull with non‑invasive scientific tools. The analysis documented the skull’s internal structure, construction technique and possible ritual function, adding fresh information on Maya burial customs and cosmology. Both projects illustrate how modern technologies are reshaping the understanding of ancient civilizations.
