Tutor Intelligence raises $75 million for warehouse robotics

Tutor Intelligence, a robotics startup founded at MIT, has secured $75 million in a Series B funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz. This investment brings the company’s total capital raised to $117 million, with participation from existing investors Union Square Ventures and Neo.

The company develops specialized robots for warehouse and factory environments, including Sonny, a dual-arm robot for precise product picking, and Cassie, a mobile robot designed for pallet loading and unloading. Unlike traditional models that require high upfront capital, Tutor Intelligence utilizes a robot-as-a-service model, allowing customers to pay hourly or per item processed.

Tutor’s approach focuses on closing the data gap in physical AI. The company employs remote human operators, known as “tutors,” to assist robots when they encounter complex tasks. The data collected from these real-world interactions is used to train frontier foundation models, enabling the robots to become increasingly autonomous and capable of handling diverse tasks without manual reprogramming.
