Tuxtla Gutiérrez authorities detain suspect in 12-year-old girl's death

Authorities in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, have detained 18-year-old Agustín “N” as the primary suspect in the feminicide of 12-year-old Lizbeth “N”. The victim, originally from Ocosingo, was found dead on the morning of September 17 in a dirt road area within the Santa Isabel neighborhood.

Investigations by the Fiscalía General del Estado de Chiapas revealed that surveillance footage showed the suspect, who is the victim's brother-in-law, stalking the child near her home. Footage also indicated that the girl left her residence on the evening of September 16 accompanied by Agustín “N”. A necropsy determined the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia due to strangulation.

The crime has sparked significant public outrage and protests from feminist collectives, including Colectiva 50+1 Chiapas. Activists are demanding a transparent judicial process with a gender and childhood perspective to ensure justice and prevent future violence.
