Mexico: Armed attacks at football fields lead to deaths and multiple arrests
Authorities in Chiapas and Guanajuato have reported significant violence involving armed attacks at football fields.
In Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, an attack at a football field in the Las Granjas neighborhood left three people dead and three others injured, including a 12-year-old boy in critical condition. The Chiapas State Attorney General's Office (FGE) reported the arrest of 15 individuals related to the incident. Officials stated the motive was linked to disputes over control of local drug retail, intended to “generate violent events.” Investigations revealed a consistent modus operandi involving attackers on motorcycles using a .380 caliber firearm.
In San Francisco del Rincón, Guanajuato, two men were linked to a separate armed attack at a football field on September 13. This incident resulted in one death and six injuries, including two adolescents. Prosecutors identified the suspects as being connected to the “Los Carranza” criminal organization, which is reportedly in a territorial dispute with the “La Renovación” group.
