Tuyen Quang launches search for over 1,000 missing martyrs

The Tuyen Quang provincial steering committee for the search, recovery, and identification of martyr remains held a conference on August 13 to collect historical data and testimonies. The initiative aims to use information from veterans and historical witnesses to identify potential locations where remains may still be located.

Statistics show that 4,267 martyrs died during the defense of the northern border in the Tuyen Quang region. To date, 3,174 remains have been recovered, leaving 1,093 martyrs still to be found. The search process faces significant challenges due to terrain changes, forest growth, and landslides occurring over the last 40 years.

During the conference, veterans provided critical details regarding combat units, troop positions, and specific battle sites, including high-altitude points such as 1509, 1800A, 1800B, 685, 233, and 1387, to assist in the ongoing recovery efforts.
