European Parliament delegation visits Bosnia and Herzegovina to discuss democratic resilience
A delegation from the European Parliament’s Special Committee on the European Democratic Shield conducted a three-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina from October 26 to 28. Led by Nathalie Loiseau, the delegation met with government officials, parliamentary committees, civil society organizations, and media representatives to discuss strengthening democratic integrity.
Key topics of discussion included combating disinformation, cybersecurity, the impact of artificial intelligence, and protecting against hybrid threats. Loiseau emphasized that European democracies are currently targets of both foreign and domestic actors. She noted that while Bosnia and Herzegovina successfully conducted elections on October 4, democracy requires continuous protection through informed citizens, independent media, and political transparency.
Loiseau warned that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains vulnerable to Russian interference, which she described as a deliberate and long-term policy of the Russian Federation. She suggested that the country could benefit from European instruments, such as participation in the European Centre for Democratic Resilience, to help safeguard its democratic processes as it pursues EU membership.
