Tuzla Canton in Bosnia plans 80 km of new fast roads

The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has issued public calls for design studies of two fast‑road projects in the Tuzla Canton, covering almost 80 km. The routes will connect Doboj Istok, Gračanica, Tuzla and Kalesija, aiming to improve regional traffic links, lower logistics costs and support economic development.

Cantonal Chamber of Commerce chairman Nedret Kikanović urged a “design‑build‑finance” model to accelerate construction, while assistant minister for transport Nenad Lukanović said a design contractor is expected to be selected in September. The canton, a key economic area, has lacked any highway for more than two decades, prompting repeated promises from officials.

If realised, the fast‑road network could boost mobility of the workforce and attract investment, though critics note the long history of unfulfilled road‑building pledges.
