Tuzla Canton reduces diagnostic waiting lists through digitalization

The Health Insurance Institute of Tuzla Canton has significantly reduced waiting times for expensive diagnostic procedures through the implementation of an improved information system and digital management of medical capacities.

Currently, patients in the Tuzla Canton wait an average of 7 to 20 days for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans, including the finalization of results. Waiting times for ophthalmological diagnostic examinations average between 12 and 21 days. This stands in contrast to other regions where patients may wait months for similar services.

The entire process—from referrals and scheduling to the performance of examinations and access to results—is supported electronically. This digital approach aims to increase transparency, reduce administrative burdens for both patients and healthcare facilities, and ensure more timely medical care. Additionally, a Patient Portal is available, allowing insured individuals to electronically access laboratory results, specialist findings, radiological images, and scheduled appointments.
