Turkey completes 500,000 earthquake‑rebuilt homes, says Minister Murat Kurum FAST-MOVING
Turkey’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change announced that around 500,000 homes have been completed in the areas affected by the February 6, 2023 earthquakes. The minister, Murat Kurum, said the work is being carried out at a rate of 23 houses per hour – roughly 550 per day – across about 3,500 construction sites in 11 provinces. An additional 120,000 homes are under in‑place transformation, and roughly 200,000 architects, engineers and workers are involved.
The reconstruction also includes new city squares, markets, parks, water‑treatment plants and other infrastructure. Kurum stressed that the scale and speed of the effort have no comparable example worldwide and that the projects were presented at the Dirençli Şehirler (Resilient Cities) Summit in Kahramanmaraş.
