Croatia: Child endangerment in Poreč and discrimination fine in Makarska
Two separate incidents involving citizens from Bosnia and Herzegovina have drawn police and judicial attention in Croatia.
In Poreč, a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman are under investigation for violating a child's rights after leaving a minor locked in a vehicle for nearly an hour at a shopping center parking lot. The child, found without clothes and sweating due to the heat, was unharmed after being examined. Istra police have issued warnings regarding the dangers of leaving children in hot vehicles during heatwaves.
In Makarska, Dragan Babić, a psychiatrist and professor from Mostar, has been fined approximately 623.79 euros by a local court. The verdict follows two incidents in June and August 2026, where Babić was found to have insulted and threatened a family from Sarajevo on religious and national grounds at a public beach. The Association of Psychiatrists of Tuzla Canton has condemned his actions, calling for strict sanctions and stating that psychiatry must remain a space free of hate.
