TV Globo professionals file complaint against reporter over Gil do Vigor comments

A group of TV Globo professionals has filed a formal complaint against reporter Álvaro Pereira Júnior following his public comments regarding economist Gil do Vigor. The complaint, motivated by posts on the social media platform X, alleges that the journalist violated the broadcaster’s code of conduct by labeling Gil do Vigor a “falso acadêmico” (fake academic).

The controversy arose after Gil do Vigor celebrated the acceptance of two articles by the Sociedade Brasileira de Econometria (SBE). Supporters of the economist have defended his academic credentials, noting his degree in Economics from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), a master’s degree, and a recently completed doctorate from the University of California, Davis.

Colleagues at TV Globo, including those from the program Mais Você, have expressed dissatisfaction with the reporter's behavior. The dispute highlights the tension between social media commentary and professional conduct within the network.
