TV Globo to air Iranian film ‘My Favourite Cake’ on Sessão da Tarde

TV Globo will broadcast the 2024 Iranian film ‘My Favourite Cake’ (Meu Bolo Favorito) during its ‘Sessão da Tarde’ programming this Thursday, September 10. Directed by Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha, the film is a drama that blends romance and social critique.

The story follows Mahin, a 70-year-old woman living in Tehran, who seeks connection and new experiences after years of solitude following her husband's death and her daughter's move to Europe. Her life changes when she meets Faramarz, a lonely taxi driver, leading to an unexpected romance that explores themes of aging, desire, and autonomy.

Beyond its personal narrative, the film serves as a portrait of contemporary Iranian society, highlighting the restrictions and limitations faced by women. The production gained international recognition at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Ecumenical Jury Prize. Notably, the directors were unable to attend the festival in person because their passports were confiscated by Iranian authorities.
