TV One hosts Black true crime panel at ABFF Pop Up in D.C

The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Pop Up Tour launched its 2026 tour in Washington, D.C., featuring a specialized panel hosted by TV One focused on the evolution of Black true crime storytelling.

During the three-day event held at the Angelika Pop-Up at Union Market from September 25-27, panelists discussed the importance of cultural care, context, and representation within the genre. The discussion featured TV One executive producer Allison Simmons, retired detective and ‘ATL Homicide’ host Vince Velazquez, and the creators of the ‘Sistas Who Kill’ podcast.

TV One highlighted its commitment to centering stories that reflect Black communities through series such as ‘ATL Homicide’ and ‘Fatal Attraction: I’d Kill to Be You’. The event served as a platform to spotlight Black creators both on-screen and behind the scenes during the festival's 30th anniversary year.
