TV Perú accused of censoring news on extortion and murders

Allegations of state-led censorship have emerged against TV Perú, the state-owned broadcaster managed by the Instituto Nacional de Radio y Televisión del Perú (IRTP). Reports indicate that at least ten news stories regarding extortion, murders of transport workers, and criminal attacks were removed from the channel’s website, social media platforms, and YouTube channel.

The deleted content includes reports on violent incidents in districts such as Los Olivos, Callao, San Martín de Porres, and Ate, occurring between August and September. Specific cases removed include a fatal attack on a driver in Los Olivos and shootings targeting transport companies like Allinbus and Nuevo Horizonte.

A TV Perú employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, claimed that internal orders were issued to purge this content to prevent news of the crime wave from negatively impacting the government's popularity. As of the latest reports, Cinthia Ramírez Santillana, the head of IRTP, has not provided an official response to these allegations.
