Telewizja Republika raises 2 million PLN from viewers for license fees

Telewizja Republika has successfully raised approximately 2.2 million PLN through a viewer crowdfunding campaign to cover overdue broadcasting license fees. The station had missed a September 1 deadline to pay a 1.78 million PLN installment and a 258,500 PLN prolongation fee to the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).

Following an urgent appeal by presenter Miłosz Kłeczek, the station launched a massive collection drive on Sunday. Within nine hours, approximately 29,000 viewers contributed, allowing the station to settle its obligations. Station president Tomasz Sakiewicz confirmed that the funds were transferred to KRRiT, describing the rapid collection as a “historic success.”

The fundraising event included a special broadcast format, a studio picnic for supporters, and satirical elements involving cardboard cutouts of political figures. The station had previously faced warnings that failure to pay could result in bank account seizures or the loss of its terrestrial broadcasting license.
