TV Tokyo and Plott announce new anime Mezamurai

TV Tokyo and Plott have announced a new original short-form anime project titled ‘Mezamurai’. The series features character designs by Hiroyuki Takei, the creator of ‘Shaman King’.

Set in a modern Japan where gates known as ‘Kimon’ allow mechanical spirits called ‘Yokai’ to attack, the story follows an organization of ‘Samurai’ who use supernatural weapons called ‘Katana’ to fight back. The protagonist, Chiaki Kuzumi, wields a Katana that contains the very power of the Yokai he is meant to destroy.

This collaboration marks TV Tokyo’s first major venture into anime distribution centered on social media platforms. Starting November 2, vertical short videos will be released daily on YouTube, X, Instagram, and TikTok. A seven-episode ‘pre-season’ is scheduled to begin on November 20, with the main series expected to premiere in Spring 2027.
