TV2 Nord to launch historical advent calendar series

TV2 Nord is launching a new original fiction production titled ‘Jagten på julen’ (The Hunt for Christmas), set to premiere on November 29. The six-part advent calendar series places three historical figures from the past into the modern world: King Harald Blåtand, Bishop Stygge Krumpen, and the Skagen painter Marie Krøyer.

The series utilizes a modern reality show format, featuring competitions inspired by popular programs such as ‘The Great British Bake Off’, ‘The Traitors’, and ‘Survivor’. Through these encounters, the production aims to explore the clash between historical traditions and contemporary society, addressing themes such as artificial intelligence, fake news, and generational differences.

TV2 Nord Director Mikael Justesen stated that the project is part of the station’s public service mission to tell the history and cultural heritage of North Jutland in new ways. Beyond television, the station has developed educational materials for primary schools to help students engage with the historical elements presented in the series.
