TV5MONDE expands African presence through governance and media initiatives
TV5MONDE is expanding its African presence through both governance changes and new media initiatives. The network has announced plans to integrate Côte d'Ivoire into its governance structure by 2027, following a similar move with Morocco. This expansion aims to make the network more representative of the global Francophone population, two-thirds of whom reside in Africa. To join, participating nations must meet specific criteria, including maintaining an independent national public broadcaster and contributing to the network's annual budget of 120 million euros.
In a separate initiative, TV5MONDE and WeMake Productions have launched the second season of ‘Les Nouveaux Boss’, a pan-African audiovisual competition focused on entrepreneurship. This edition aims to identify sustainable businesses with high growth potential rather than just individual project pitches. The competition has received nearly 1,000 applications, with 16 candidates expected to be selected following pre-selection phases in Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Morocco, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The new format includes expanded sectors, such as health tech, and allows for duo pitches.
