TVB enters short drama market with ‘War and Beauty’ spin-off
TVB has announced a strategic partnership with Hongguo Short Drama to enter the vertical screen short drama market. The collaboration marks a significant shift for the broadcaster as it seeks to reach younger audiences through new media formats.
The first joint production, a spin-off of the classic palace drama ‘War and Beauty’ titled ‘War and Beauty: Palace Wall Willow,’ officially commenced filming at the Ming and Qing Palace in Hengdian. The production features veteran actor Moses Chan reprising his iconic role as Kong Mo, alongside other established stars such as Myolie Wu and Rosina Lam.
TVB Drama Department Assistant Director Man Wai-hung stated that while the format utilizes vertical screens and shorter durations, the production will maintain the rigorous standards and high-quality craftsmanship associated with traditional long-form dramas. This move follows TVB’s recent rebranding to Wireless Group, signaling its evolution into a cross-media entertainment entity.
