TVK functionary accused of sexual assault in Kanyakumari

A functionary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, identified as Christopher, has been booked by police in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu for the alleged sexual assault of a college student.

The incident reportedly occurred when the victim, a second-year MA student, and a friend were waiting for a bus during heavy rain. Christopher, a member of the TVK central district executive committee, allegedly offered the students a ride in his car. After dropping off the friend, he reportedly drove the victim toward her home and sexually assaulted her.

While the Thakkalai police registered a case under Sections 75(1) and 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the investigation has faced complications. A day after filing the initial complaint, the student submitted a written request seeking to withdraw the charges and asking that no action be taken against the accused. This development has led to allegations of intimidation from political opponents.
