Tamil Nadu's TVK-led alliance named Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu has officially named itself the ‘Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance’. The announcement followed a coordination meeting in Chennai chaired by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay.
Key constituent parties of the new alliance include the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). During the meeting, leaders discussed formalizing the coalition's structure, establishing a steering committee, and drafting a Common Minimum Programme.
Notably, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) boycotted the meeting. The Left parties have maintained their position of providing issue-based external support to the government rather than joining a formal alliance structure, citing a desire to avoid joining without cabinet representation.
The formation of this alliance comes as the TVK seeks to consolidate its political standing following the 2026 Assembly elections, where it emerged as the single largest party.
