TVK official arrested after 100 kg methamphetamine seizure in Nagapattinam

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized over 100 kg of methamphetamine in Nagapattinam, leading to the arrest of N Boopalan, a district executive committee member of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party. The contraband is reportedly valued at hundreds of crores of rupees.

Acting on intelligence, the DRI and local police searched residences in Sinthamani and Prathaparamapuram. In addition to Boopalan, an associate named J Suganathan was arrested after officials recovered the narcotics at his residence. Authorities believe Boopalan was linked to an international smuggling network.

Investigations suggest the operation may involve cross-border trafficking between India and Sri Lanka via the Palk Strait maritime route. The arrest has impacted the public image of TVK, a political party founded by actor Vijay. The party has since expelled Boopalan following the incident.
