TVK seeks to expand political alliance at September 9 meeting
The ruling TVK party is preparing to expand its political alliance during a meeting scheduled for September 9, chaired by Chief Minister and TVK president C Joseph Vijay. In an effort to strengthen the coalition, TVK ministers recently met with leaders of the CPM, CPI, and MDMK to extend invitations to the upcoming meeting and propose that the Left parties join the government.
Following these meetings, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam indicated a softening of his previous stance regarding a recent controversy involving a government circular. The TVK ministers reportedly expressed regret over the actions of the Chief Secretary and a local tehsildar, characterizing them as official mistakes.
Despite these outreach efforts, the CPI has maintained that while they support the TVK government to prevent President’s rule, they have decided not to formally join the ministry. The Left parties will discuss the political views conveyed by the Chief Minister during their internal meetings before deciding whether to attend the September 9 gathering.
