TVP to broadcast 1977 'Lalka' series amid new adaptations

TVP 1 will begin broadcasting the 1977 television series adaptation of Bolesław Prus’s novel ‘Lalka’ starting in early September. The nine-episode series, directed by Ryszard Ber and starring Małgorzata Braunek and Jerzy Kamas, is scheduled to air on Sundays around 14:30.

This broadcast coincides with multiple new adaptations of the classic story. On September 16, Netflix will release a new six-episode series directed by Paweł Maślona, featuring Sandra Drzymalska and Tomasz Schuchardt. Additionally, a film adaptation directed by Macieja Kawalski is set for theatrical release on September 30, starring Kamila Urzędowska and Marcin Dorociński.

The film production, led by Gigant Films and co-produced by TVN Warner Bros. Discovery, originally considered a partnership with TVP that included a 10 million PLN funding offer. However, the producers ultimately declined cooperation with the public broadcaster to maintain creative independence.
