Twelve Arabian horses rescued from neglect in Bubbio

Authorities in Bubbio, Asti, have rescued 12 Arabian horses—ten mares and two stallions—from a breeding farm following reports of severe neglect. The intervention was carried out by the Carabinieri Forestali and ASL veterinary services.

An initial inspection in July had identified critical issues, leading to specific directives for the owner to restore animal welfare. However, these instructions were reportedly ignored. A follow-up inspection on August 14 revealed the animals' conditions had worsened; they were severely malnourished with a Body Condition Score between 0 and 1 on a 5-point scale.

Due to their extreme debilitation, an immediate transfer was deemed too risky and potentially fatal. Authorities initially placed the horses under an urgent criminal seizure, allowing the owner to remain as temporary custodian under strict conditions and constant veterinary monitoring to stabilize their nutrition. Following health clearance, the horses were successfully transferred to a non-profit organization in the Varese area.
