Twentynine Palms explosion and house fire kills one

A house explosion and subsequent fire in Twentynine Palms, California, resulted in one fatality and two injuries on the evening of August 21. The incident occurred in a single-family home on the 6400 block of Octolillo Avenue.

One individual was pronounced dead at the scene, while two adults sustained injuries. One victim suffered significant burns and was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and another was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

During the emergency, several Navy hospital corpsmen and Marines, who were attending a farewell dinner nearby, transitioned into first responders. They assisted in pulling an injured man from the collapsing structure and helped evacuate neighboring residents before civilian emergency services arrived.

A joint investigation into the cause of the explosion is being conducted by the San Bernardino County Fire Department and the Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson Division.
