Twin brothers plead guilty to federal tax crimes involving golf tee-time brokering
Twin brothers Se Youn “Steve” Kim and Hee Youn “Ted” Kim, who worked as MRI technicians in Southern California, have pleaded guilty to federal tax charges. The brothers admitted to failing to report more than $1.3 million in income to the IRS for the 2022 and 2023 tax years.
Prosecutors alleged the brothers operated a lucrative golf tee-time brokering business. By securing highly sought-after early morning slots at numerous public golf courses across Southern California almost immediately upon release, they allegedly created a monopoly. This practice made it more difficult and expensive for the general public to reserve tee times without paying the brothers additional booking fees.
As part of their plea agreements, the brothers are required to pay at least $581,616 in restitution. Hee Youn “Ted” Kim faces up to five years in federal prison, while Se Youn “Steve” Kim faces a maximum of three years. Sentencing is scheduled for January 12.
