Twin Cities Marathon returns with record participation

The Twin Cities Marathon returns this weekend with a record-breaking field of participants. Organizers report that more than 30,000 people have signed up for various races throughout the weekend, including the 5K, 10K, and the main marathon.

Defending champions are set to compete, including Will Norris of Iowa, who won last year with a time of 2:15:39, and Jane Bareikis, the top woman from last year. The marathon begins Sunday morning in downtown Minneapolis, winds around the city lakes and the Mississippi River, and concludes at the Minnesota State Capitol in St. Paul.

Local residents and travelers are advised to prepare for road closures and detours in both Minneapolis and St. Paul. The event includes a health and fitness expo and several family-friendly activities scheduled for Saturday.
