Twisha Sharma death case: AIIMS team conducts second autopsy as Supreme Court takes suo moto notice
Twisha Sharma, a 33‑year‑old model and actress from Noida, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on 12 May 2026. Her family alleges she was subjected to mental torture and dowry harassment by her husband, Samarth Singh, and his relatives, prompting widespread public outrage.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a fresh post‑mortem and dispatched a four‑member senior doctor team from AIIMS Delhi, which arrived in Bhopal on 24 May with advanced forensic equipment to perform the second autopsy. The procedure was scheduled for Sunday, following the court's directive.
The Supreme Court has taken suo‑motu cognisance of the matter, forming a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant to hear the case. Meanwhile, a local court remanded Singh and other accused to seven days of police custody, and the state government has recommended transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Formal notices have also been issued to the accused’s mother, former judge Giribala Singh.
