Twisha Sharma's death prompts silent protest in Noida, Uttar Pradesh

On May 31, 2026, a silent protest was held in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, demanding justice for 33‑year‑old Twisha Sharma. Sharma, a Noida resident, died on May 12 in Bhopal after her family alleged she suffered mental torture and dowry harassment by her husband, Samarth Singh, and his family. The case cites the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

Family members spoke at the gathering. Major Harshit Sharma, Twisha’s brother, said, “We have full faith that the truth will come out.” Father Navnidhi Sharma added that the protest was a “message of unity.” The ashes of Twisha Sharma were immersed in the Ganga River at Rishikesh on May 29.

The Bhopal District Court ordered a five‑day Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) remand for Samarth Singh and his mother‑in‑law, Giribala Singh, up to June 2, and the CBI sought an extension of the remand period.
