Twin brothers, 11, drown in River Ter near Manlleu, Spain

Two 11‑year‑old twin brothers from a Ghanaian family disappeared after playing football in Manlleu, Osona, Catalonia. Their parents reported them missing in the early hours of Monday, prompting the Mossos d'Esquadra to launch a search that included drones, a sub‑aquatic unit and coordination with local police.

The bodies were recovered on Tuesday around 13:00 and 14:00 in the bed of the River Ter. Fingerprint analysis and autopsies at the Institute of Forensic Medicine are pending, but early indications point to an accidental drowning, as neither child was a strong swimmer and they are believed to have entered the river to cool off.

Catalonia's president Salvador Illa expressed his condolences, describing himself as “conmocionado” and offering “todo mi apoyo y pésame”. The Manlleu town council declared two days of official mourning, lowered flags to half‑mast and scheduled a minute of silence. The investigation remains open pending the forensic results.
