Large agricultural fire spreads in Tekirdağ, Turkey

A fire broke out in agricultural fields in the Marmaraereğlisi district of Tekirdağ province and, driven by strong winds, quickly expanded to four separate points. The flames approached residential neighborhoods and a holiday site, prompting panic among locals.

Multiple agencies were mobilised, including the Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, the Forest Service, AFAD, gendarmerie, police, health teams and TOMA water‑cannon vehicles. Water tankers and forest‑service dozers were also deployed to create firebreaks. Visibility on the Tekirdağ‑Istanbul highway was reduced by heavy smoke, and traffic officials warned drivers to exercise caution. The cause of the blaze remains unidentified, and fire‑fighting operations continue.
