Two aircraft make emergency landings in Barcelona and Valencia

Two separate aircraft performed emergency landings at Spanish airports on Friday within a few hours of each other.

A Delta Airlines flight bound for Atlanta was forced to return to Barcelona-El Prat Airport after smoke and flames were detected in one of its engines shortly after takeoff. Civil Protection activated the AEROCAT emergency plan, and airport firefighters responded to the scene. The aircraft landed safely, and no personal or material damage was reported.

Shortly after, a Swiss Air Airbus A320 traveling from Zurich conducted an emergency landing at Manises Airport in Valencia. The aircraft circled the area before touching down, which caused a temporary blockage of the runway. This disruption led to the diversion of five other flights arriving from Malta, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Basel, and Marrakech. Operations at Valencia airport returned to normal once the runway was cleared.
