Two Alaska teenagers found dead in Juneau woods

Two 16-year-old teenagers, Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark, were found dead from gunshot wounds in a wooded area near Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School in Juneau, Alaska, on Monday afternoon.

Phillips was reported missing from his home at 5:52 a.m., and Clark was reported missing at 8:49 a.m. The Juneau Police Department discovered their bodies near the Glacier Highway just before 2:30 p.m. A firearm was located near the scene, though authorities have not disclosed how the minors obtained the weapon. The bodies have been sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy.

While officials have not officially ruled on the cause or manner of death, family members and community members have described the incident as an apparent double suicide. A candlelight vigil was held at the middle school campus to honor the pair, who were described by loved ones as sweethearts.
