Two armed suspects killed in police shootouts in Cabo Frio and Caarapó, Brazil

In Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro state, police tactical units responded to a tip that armed men were trafficking drugs in a forested area of Tangará. The suspects opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire. One suspect was wounded, taken to Hospital Municipal Otime Cardoso dos Santos and later died. Police recovered a 9 mm pistol with a suppressed serial number, an extended magazine, 24 live rounds, 5 spent cartridges, 61 packets of cocaine, ten tablets of marijuana, a cell phone and a Honda XRE‑190 motorcycle.

In Caarapó, Mato Grosso do Sul, members of the Shock Battalion confronted a 40‑year‑old man identified as a leading figure of the Comando Vermelho gang in the Shalom neighbourhood. After locating him inside a residence, officers exchanged fire. The suspect, who was linked to multiple recent homicides and a recent attempted murder, was taken to Hospital São Mateus but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police seized a .22‑calibre revolver with five intact rounds and one spent cartridge.
