Two arrested for vandalism in Engelen and Bokhoven

Police have arrested a 52-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman from the ’s-Hertogenbosch municipality in connection with the vandalism and defacement of homes and vehicles in Engelen and Bokhoven. The incidents, which occurred during the night of July 25 to July 26, involved highly offensive text targeting individuals involved in the local debate regarding a proposed asylum seeker reception center (AMV) for unaccompanied minors.

To date, thirteen reports have been filed. The investigation included the analysis of surveillance footage and neighborhood inquiries. In addition to the arrests, police conducted a large-scale search at a residence on De Bloemendaal, utilizing search dogs and cordoning off the area.

While a stolen vehicle was recently recovered in Dieze, police stated that the theft is unrelated to the vandalism investigation. Authorities also noted that protest signs at the proposed reception site were recently destroyed. Police and local officials have expressed concern over the increasing hostility in the local discussion, emphasizing that while democratic debate is permitted, criminal acts mark a crossing of legal boundaries.
