Two B.C. residents fined for unlawful mule deer shooting

Two British Columbia residents, Michael Loring and Levi Cahoose, have been fined following an unlawful mule deer shooting near Quesnel in November 2024. The incident occurred within the West Fraser Road single projectile hunting closure.

According to the BC Conservation Officer Service, the pair shot a mule deer buck and subsequently loaded it into a truck. A conservation officer conducting a compliance check determined the animal had been unlawfully harvested.

In Quesnel provincial court, Michael Loring pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of live wildlife and discharging a firearm using a single projectile. He was ordered to pay $2,300 in total, consisting of $2,300 in fines to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund and victim surcharges.

Levi Cahoose pleaded guilty to being a party to the offence regarding the discharge of a firearm using a single projectile. He was ordered to pay $900 to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund and a $115 victim surcharge.
