Two Big Lake residents killed in Minnesota ATV rollover
A father and his teenage daughter were killed in an ATV rollover in Aitkin County, Minnesota, on Friday afternoon. The victims, identified as 48-year-old Jacob Jeurissen and 18-year-old Kiara Jeurissen of Big Lake, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on 600th Lane in Macville Township, a minimum-maintenance road that connects the Blind Lake ATV trail to the township road system. The vehicle, a 2018 Polaris Razor Turbo 1000, appeared to have rolled multiple times.
According to the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, both occupants were wearing five-point safety harnesses but were not wearing helmets. The victims suffered severe head injuries. Family members who had recently finished lunch and were following the vehicle called 911 to report the crash. Investigators noted that speed may have been a factor, though the exact cause of the rollover remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were Hill City Emergency Services, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
