Martin Insaurralde faces ongoing probe over alleged $10 million cash stash

Argentina’s former Lomas de Zamora mayor Martin Insaurralde and his ex‑partner Jesica Cirio remain under investigation for alleged enrichment illicit and money‑laundering. Video recordings released by Cirio show bundles of cash hidden in a bedroom, which prosecutors estimate could total around US$10 million. Federal prosecutor Sergio Mola argues the money belongs to both suspects and has asked the court to incorporate it into the case.

Judge Luis Armella has rejected a request for preventive detention, deeming it premature, but has kept strict judicial measures in place: the duo cannot leave Argentina, may not travel more than 50 km from their listed residences, and must obtain court permission for any longer absences. The Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation has also confirmed a comprehensive asset freeze covering bank accounts, vehicles and properties. Ongoing forensic audits aim to map their full patrimony, while investigators are examining phones and conducting inspections at properties in San Vicente and Palermo.

Amid the legal drama, a circulated video captured Insaurralde celebrating Argentina’s World Cup win over Switzerland in a Puerto Madero residence, alongside banker Juan Nápoli and other figures, further highlighting his public visibility despite the investigation.
