Two children killed in Ndenderu house fire
Two children, aged three and five, died following a house fire in the Catholic Church area of Ndenderu, Kiambu County, on Saturday afternoon. The fire broke out at approximately 4:00 p.m. in a semi-permanent residence constructed of timber and iron sheets.
Police reported that the children’s 24-year-old mother had left them at the home around 7:00 a.m. to go to work at Bobbies Supermarket in Ndenderu Market. The Kiambaa Fire Brigade, supported by police and members of the public, eventually extinguished the flames. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and Crime Scene Investigation officers have documented the scene. The bodies have been moved to the SDA Mortuary in Kihara pending postmortem examinations.
In a separate incident in Embu East Subcounty, a three-year-old boy, Brian Munene Mutugi, drowned in a well at his grandfather’s farm in Kawathi Village on September 17. The child was playing alone after his mother had gone to fetch water. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Ena Tenri Hospital.
