Two Chileans detained with cocaine in Bali, Indonesia
Two Chilean citizens, a 31-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were arrested at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, Indonesia, after authorities discovered approximately 4.59 kilograms of cocaine in their luggage.
The drugs were found hidden in false compartments within four separate packages. The shipment, valued at approximately 1.5 billion Chilean pesos, was intercepted following a flight from Melbourne, Australia, which had originated in Santiago, Chile.
In addition to the two Chileans, an Indonesian citizen, identified as H. U., was also detained. Investigations suggest H. U. was intended to receive the narcotics at a hotel. Indonesian authorities are currently investigating whether the group is part of an international drug trafficking network.
Under Indonesia’s strict drug laws, the suspects face severe legal consequences, ranging from 20 years in prison to life imprisonment or the death penalty.
