Two climbers injured in accident on Glemine ridge
Two climbers from the Pordenone area, aged 46 and 70, were injured during a climbing ascent on the Glemine ridge near Gemona del Friuli on Saturday, October 10.
The accident occurred at an altitude of approximately 570 meters during the final length of the climb. While navigating a slab section, the lead climber fell about ten meters, striking his partner who was stationed at a belay point to secure him. The lead climber then tumbled an additional ten meters into a wooded channel below. Both individuals sustained injuries, with the lead climber reportedly suffering serious trauma.
The rescue operation was complex, requiring the deployment of two helicopters and multiple rotations to transport medical personnel, technicians, and stretchers directly to the climbers on the rock face. The alarm was raised around 4:00 PM by another climbing party located nearby.
