Two cousins arrested for highway robbery in Adana
Two cousins have been arrested for a theft on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep (TAG) Highway. The incident occurred on July 25 when a driver, identified as İsmail Y., stopped his light commercial vehicle on the shoulder due to a mechanical failure.
According to reports, Kemal Güvercin approached the stalled vehicle, opened the door, and stole a bag containing approximately 10 grams of gold, 22,000 Turkish Lira, 500 US Dollars, and a tablet. Approximately 10 minutes later, his cousin Sergin Güvercin arrived at the scene. Sergin, who reportedly identified himself as a public official, warned the victim by saying, "There are many thieves here, be careful," before leaving the area.
Following an investigation by the Adana Police Department, which included reviewing vehicle camera footage, both suspects were detained. It was noted that Kemal Güvercin had been released from prison on leave at the time of the incident. Both men were subsequently arrested by the court.
