Two Cubans sentenced to prison for kidnapping in Cancún

Two Cuban nationals, Yosbel Lázaro Planas Pita and Roinel Morejón Rodríguez, have been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for the aggravated illegal deprivation of liberty in Cancún, Mexico.

The incident occurred in April 2024 after the victim arrived in Quintana Roo. The victim was forcibly taken to a residence in the Los Héroes subdivision, specifically in Supermanzana 224, where he was held against his will and threatened. The perpetrators reportedly demanded $8,000 USD from the victim's family to ensure his safety.

The victim was eventually rescued after managing to cry out for help from inside the house, which prompted a police intervention. Officers entered the premises, rescued the individual, and arrested both men in flagrante delicto. Following an oral trial and the presentation of evidence by the State Attorney General's Office, a judge determined the criminal responsibility of both defendants.
