Two young workers die in head-on collision on Perugia-Bettolle bypass

Two young professionals, 20-year-old Gaia Stronati and 21-year-old Stefano Marrese, died following a head-on collision between their Opel Karl and a heavy truck on the Perugia-Bettolle bypass near Passignano.

The accident occurred on a section of the highway where construction work had forced two-way traffic onto a single carriageway. Preliminary investigations suggest the car may have crossed into the opposing lane. Both victims, who worked for the energy company Optima, were transported to a hospital in Perugia where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The Perugia Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into dual road homicide. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the lane departure, and the truck driver, who was injured in the crash, may be formally investigated as part of the ongoing inquiry.
