Two dead and two injured in separate Rio Grande do Sul highway crashes

A fatal head‑on collision on the RS‑324 near Casca in northern Rio Grande do Sul early Sunday left two people dead—a 64‑year‑old driver and a 28‑year‑old passenger—and seriously injured the driver of the second vehicle, who was taken to Hospital Santa Lúcia.

Later Monday morning, a rear‑end crash on the RS‑240 near kilometer 2 in São Leopoldo involved a Honda Civic and a Chevrolet Zafira. One passenger from the Zafira was hurt and transported to Hospital Centenário. The accident blocked half of the lane, causing traffic slowdown on the São Leopoldo‑Portão direction. Police are investigating the causes of both incidents, which underscore the high rate of serious road accidents on the state's highways.
