Two dead in fatal A59 accident involving farmer protest traffic

A fatal multi-vehicle accident occurred on the A59 highway near Heesch, Netherlands, resulting in the deaths of a 71-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman from Oss. The collision involved four cars and took place in the tail end of a traffic jam caused by tractors traveling toward a farmer protest in Den Bosch.

Six other individuals were injured in the crash. Emergency services, including a trauma team, responded to the scene, and the highway was closed for several hours. The protest in Den Bosch was organized in response to provincial plans to revoke permits for five poultry farms.

Police are currently investigating the exact cause of the collision. While agricultural vehicles are prohibited from using motorways, authorities had previously indicated they would not stop tractors unless they blocked traffic or created immediate danger, citing the right to demonstrate. Investigations continue into the role the tractor-induced congestion played in the accident.
