Two dead in Samut Prakan after crane hits power line during flood recovery

Two men died in Samut Prakan, Thailand, after a crane struck an overhead power line during a vehicle recovery operation in a flooded residential area.

The incident occurred in the Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, where heavy rains had left floodwaters exceeding 1.2 meters deep. A 40-year-old homeowner had hired a six-wheel crane truck to move his submerged sedan to higher ground. As the operator was lifting the vehicle, the tip of the crane's boom made contact with a power line.

The 31-year-old crane operator, Sitthiphop Meesamrit, suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed into the water. The homeowner, Thanakrit Chimpalee, attempted to assist the operator but was also electrocuted. Although emergency responders performed CPR on the driver and transported him to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries. The homeowner was recovered from the water by neighbors and was also found dead.

Police and medical personnel from Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital and the Ruamkatanyu Foundation attended the scene. Authorities have sent both bodies for post-mortem examinations as part of an ongoing investigation.
