Two dead in Santo Domingo fuel tanker collision and fire
A multi-vehicle collision and subsequent fire on George Washington Avenue in Santo Domingo resulted in at least two deaths on Monday morning. The accident involved a fuel tanker, a SUV, a car, and a motorcycle.
The tanker, operated by 35-year-old Luis Alejandro Torres Medina and belonging to the company Credigas Nativa, was reportedly traveling at high speed when it struck a car. The impact triggered a massive fire after the tanker, which was carrying approximately 10,000 gallons of diesel, spilled its contents.
José Luis Frómeta Herasme, head of the Santo Domingo Fire Department, reported that one victim was found inside a vehicle and another was located near the tanker. Authorities believe the deceased may be the tanker driver and the driver of the SUV. Firefighters worked to extract the bodies for identification and to manage the intense smoke and fuel spill that caused significant traffic chaos in the area.
